I do this blog for fun. I never expected it to change anything. It won't.

Being threatened with Manson-style offing was unexpected.

The SCIAM comment saying women shouldn't see this blog

*and its subsequent support*are incredible to me.

There is a victimology sickness in the Muslim world. To El Naschie, it's his own personal Stradivarius.

What's the meaning of this? What's sad?

The foregoing statistics are water under the bridge, for most of the world, and they don't think about it much. But the Arab world is acutely aware of this comparison. What's sad is the Arab world's - specifically Egypt's - conviction that a fraud named El Naschie deserves a Nobel prize and that he'd have one except for the racism of the Nobel KKKomittee.

Listen up, Arab world. El Naschie isn't a great scientist. He's a hilarious doofus. Arabs can win Nobel prizes just like all the other ethnic groups that inhabit this planet. In backing him you have chosen a bad basket for your eggs.

Jason,

ReplyDeleteit's interesting to note that El Naschie's teacher (by his own claim) was Ilya Prigogine, a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (1977) of Jewish origin. Apparently (see his website), El Naschie (an Arab) is very proud to be a disciple of Prigogine (a Jew), so the Arab world should think about this fact before jumping into conclusions about racism in science.

shrink

I think that claim with Prigogine is also just a lie of El-Naschie. He made his phd in engineering at London. El-Naschie has no chemistry phd or diploma....

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure he's got a PhD in engineering, Anonymous, because of the changes his lawyers won in the Zeit piece.

ReplyDeletehttp://elnaschiewatch.blogspot.com/2009/03/changes-in-drossers-zeit-piece.html

However, I admit it's an elusive, slippery document. :) I'd love to see it.

He's not a full professor though, as he claims.

Having read a zillion comments in support of El Naschie I consider the psychology of his backers an area of my expertise. One attitude I notice and should be mentioned is that it's an Arab's "turn" to get a Nobel prize. Of course the prizes are awarded for actual science, not on a basis of rotating nationality, which would devalue the Nobel prize to nearly zero instantly. However, if Arabs want to dump oil money into a science prize of rotating nationality, nobody is stopping them. Financially, they can make the Nobel look like a pittance. But it won't have the Nobel's prestige no matter how many petrodollars they throw at it.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, indeed, the journal "Chaos, Solitons and Fractals continues to publish stuff about Naschie's E_infinity theory:

ReplyDeleteChaos, Solitons & Fractals

Volume 39, Issue 4, 28 February 2009, Pages 1667-1670

A generalized poincaré-invariant action with possible application in strings and E-infinity theory

Ji-Huan He

Modern Textile Institute, Donghua University, 1882 Yan’an Xilu Road, Shanghai 200051, China

It reads at the end:

"In forthcoming papers, we will study the properties of the generalized action and find their potential applications in string theory and E-infinity theory.

Hence, even more E_infinity stuff can be expected

Well, El Naschie's claim that Prigogine was his teacher or mentor can be somehow valid even if Prigogine was not his diploma or PhD advisor. As a matter of fact Prigogine in his later years worked in the field of chaos and collaborated with El Naschie on that topic, e.g.:

ReplyDeletehttp://www.bookfinder.com/dir/i/Quantum_Mechanics,_Diffusion_and_Chaotic_Fractals/0080420273/

Presuming this collaboration was genuine Prigogine's influence on El Naschie can be regarded as mentorship. On the other hand El Naschie's attitude in seeking "friends" among Nobel Laureates is well known. It seems that Prigogine was his biggest trophy.

P.S. El Naschie's website "is temporarily under construction." :D

Interesting comment. What is in that book?

ReplyDeleteFrom the content description at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Mechanics-Diffusion-Chaotic-Fractals/dp/0080420273%3FSubscriptionId%3D1NNRF7QZ418V218YP1R2%26tag%3Dbookfindercom0e%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0080420273

One could expect the worst. For example, this here:

"a radical endophysical interpretation: another contribution looks at the possibility of chaos in Einstein's fundamental equations."

may be related to crackpot articles of the infamous professor Roessler. Roessler has worked on a crackpottery philosophical interpretation of quantum mechanics which he calls "endophysics". Similarly, Roessler has published crackpot articles about general relativity in Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. Has El Naschie put his E_infinity crackpot stuff in that book?

It would show a bad light on Prigogine, if he would have published crackpot physics of that sort in his latest years

I can't tell anything about the content of that book, but I can add that Prigogine published some papers in El Naschie's CS&F, e.g.:

ReplyDelete2001 "Gamow algebras"

(with I. Antoniou, M. Gadella, E. Karpov and G. Pronko)

Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 12, 2757

2001 "Explicit construction of a time superoperator for quantum unstable systems"

(with G. Ordonez, T. Petrosky and E. Karpov)

Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 12, 2591

2000 "Thermodynamic limit, Hilbert space and breaking of time symmetry"

(with T. Petrosky)

Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 11, 373-382

2000 "Time operator for diffusion"

(with I. Antoniou, V. Sadovnichii and S.A. Shkarin)

Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 11, 465

See his recent journal articles:

http://order.ph.utexas.edu/people/Prigogine.htm#papers

In total (see in ScienceDirect) he published 7 articles in CS&F (in the period 1991-2001).

Curiously, this one:

El Naschie, M. S. and Prigogine, I., Time Symmetry Breaking in Classical and Quantum Mechanics. Chaos, Solitons Fractals, 1996, 7(4), Special Issue.

see: http://www.getcited.org/cits/PP/1/PUB/103408680

which El Naschie cited on several occasions in his subsequent articles, can't be found among them! A closer look to that issue of CS&F reveals that El Naschie alone published an article with a similar title:

Time symmetry breaking, duality and cantorian space-time

Pages 499-503, 505-518

and Prigogine published a different article (with T. Petrosky):

Poincaré resonances and the extension of classical dynamics

Pages 441-497

So, how in the hell El Naschie managed to cite this nonexistent article?

Well, I think the answer is at hand: Because the special issue 7(4) is titled "Time Symmetry Breaking in Classical and Quantum Mechanics" El Naschie cited the entire issue (in which Prigogine also published a paper) pretending that he co-authored an article with Prigogine! In one sentence: Pure scientific fraud!

This abuse of Prigogine's name is symptomatic: probably the same applies to the mentioned book and to other El-Naschie's claims about Prigogine.

Wow. Good work, shrink.
