El Naschie didn't head KACST

I am still in mourning over FQXi-395, which entertained us from March 26, 2008 to April 26, 2010. Since it ended I've seen hardly a single El Naschie supporter or sockpuppet post anywhere on the Internet. The great man's support has dried up. He doesn't even get encouraging comments, or indeed any comments at all, on his daily Rosa Al-Youssef column.

In a post timestamped "Sh wrote on Apr. 4, 2009 @ 08:35 GMT" on part one of the FQXi-395 archive, commenter "Sh" gave a now-broken link to El Naschie's CV and another now-broken link to a list of heads of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). The purpose of this post is to give new working links and to highlight the discrepancy that "Sh" noted between the two documents.

These updated links do work:

First, here is the historical list of presidents of KACST.

Second, here is the great man's CV. Scroll down.

There is a great deal of nonsense on El Naschie's CV but we restrict attention to page one, Academic Career section, fifth bullet item:

  • Director, KACST 1987, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

The head of KACST is called the President, not the Director, but never mind. If you consult the list of presidents you'll see that El Naschie never was the head of KACST.

The Saudis are embarrassed by their previous belief in El Naschie. The great man used Nobel Laureate Gerard 't Hooft to make him appear to be a real scientist.

That brought him lucrative deals in Saudi Arabia.

In his law suit against Nature, he complains that he's been damaged by the article because the Saudis no longer pay him consulting fees.

  1. El Naschie's Rosa column for Sunday, June 20 is up. S intimacy in Cairo. Arabic or English.

The great man writes poetically from his house in Surrey how much he misses Cairo.

He tells of a conversation he had with Mamoun Fandy, who knows "more than many physicists" about El Naschie's theoretical work and the work of Ahmed Zewail.

Does Dr. Fandy know El Naschie is a crackpot, I wonder? I tried to ask him on this contact page, but commenting requires registration, and there is no registration form.

  2. By the way, in connection with Mamoun Fandy in the previous comment, see also this post:

  3. I think Mamoun Fandy is a crackpot but in political science. You know you can find crackpots everywhere and they can attracted to each other if they are belonging to different fields.

  4. For the uninitiated, Zahy is using Pascal Boyer's Rule #4. We wrote about Pascal Boyer in this post.
