The saga of an elusive Director of Publications

Who is the Director of Publications of Medwell Journals?

This is a follow-up to My email to RJAS, JEAS, and Medwell Journals.

If you click the Editors link for any of the Medwell journals you'll see the Director of Publications is someone named Muhammad Sohail.

RJAS:

JEAS:

No other contact information, affiliation, or geographical hint is given. I thought I had hit pay dirt when my Google search unearthed a biochemist of that name at Oxford University, and I included him on my email. But the Oxfordian Dr. Muhammad Sohail, clearly exasperated, replied-all thusly:

To Medwell:

This 'bloody' fraudulent Medwell should ensure that they specify the geographical location of their Director of Publications. I share the name with the guy and I am fed up with getting email that are addressed to him but sent to me; I am seriously considering taking legal action against Medwell. Not only that I am sending the tax man on your trail. I know exactly where you live.

As for the Editors-in-Chief, I Googled up ibadran@philadelphia.edu.jo and abdellatif.mtibaa@enim.rnu.tn, but there is no absolute assurance those emails are correct either.

Medwell's identification of its editors is also vague, giving countries but not institutions. Frankly, they seem a bit flaky.

Can anyone solve the Medwell Mystery?

  1. Hi Jason,
Can you give a look at the Telesio -Galilei Academy, http://www.telesio-galilei.com/tg/
Also you can look at the academy award

    http://www.telesio-galilei.com/tg/index.php/academy-award-2009

I smell crackpots there, but it seems that they missed the great man. I think this is the proper place to honor El naschie. It is strange that El naschie doesn't know about this academy.

  6. Hi Shrink and Jason,

Now that you have located the whereabouts of Dr. Muhammad Sohail, can you confirm that the RJAS Medwell journal is an official publication and does not engage in any fraudulent act?

  7. I fell for Medwell's scam. I sent a paper which they unfortunately published. I knew it was a scam when they asked for payment. i tried to withdraw the paper but found that their email was fake. I never paid but they published the paper. I'm ashamed of myself. The paper's wasted now.

  8. I am sorry to hear that. We get a lot of hits from people Googling "Medwell journal scam" and similar terms.

  9. I think I am the victim of Medwell journal. About 1 month ago, I submitted a manuscript for Journal of Food Technology of Medwell by online. Didn't reach 1 minute, they confirmed that my manuscript was "accepted" (how easy?). and the more strange is the date of acceptance letter is 1 January 1970!!

Then, a day after that acceptance letter, that guy 'Muhammad Sohail' sent a message to my e-mail :

"Thank you so much for providing us all required changes in your article (fact: I never change it), finally we are able to inform you that article is accepted for final publication and now it
is pending only due to non-payment. We request to you please generate your invoice from website and send us fee immediately to process it further."

when I check the invoice, I must pay US $400.
Of course I didn't pay it.

    it is very ridiculous!!!

so, for all, I think Medwell is not official publication!

They published it even we didn't pay?

  11. That convinces me it's a scam journal. Thanks for your report, dildil.

  12. I guess enough people do pay that they can still make a profit. Bogus!

  13. OMG... my colleague is in the process of paying them.. hope it's not too late to alert her. she got the exact same acceptance letter that dildil got above, same reason for not been published - "non-payment"

  14. Does muhammad sohail reply his email? How to remove the published article?

  15. He has never replied to my emails, unfortunately.

  17. Hello
I also sent a paper and get the same reply. What should I do. Can anyone help me.

  18. Any journal that asks you to pay a fee after accepting your paper is automatically a scam journal. A legitimate journal, at worst, would give you the option to pay an open access fee, but would not require it.

  19. Why on earth do we have their journal listed in SCOPUS DATA BASE. Someone should please advise. I am referring to International Business Mnagement

  20. I made a very silly mistake in 2014 when I sent a researched work to the journal and they asked me to pay ($400)a month after that my paper have been accepted, I fell for it and pay but till date I have not heard anything from them. I've sent several emails but no reply, the last one was the I sent to Dr Mohammed and I got a reply from him immediately that he has nothing to do with the journal. What is going on? This is an international fraud.
