We write to another Hindawi journal

Earlier we had good luck with the Hindawi journal Mathematical Problems in Engineering (MPE). Today Shrink compiled the email addresses for International Journal of Differential Equations (IJDE) and I sent this:

To the Editorial Board of International Journal of Differential Equations (IJDE) and Hindawi Publishing Corporation:

Dear Colleagues at IJDE and Hindawi,

It has come to our attention that the Prof. Ji-Huan He is on the Editorial Board of IJDE.

Allow me to advise you that listing Prof. He as an editor makes IJDE and Hindawi a tempting object of ridicule and butt of jokes.

Ji-Huan He is notorious for gaming the impact factor of the International Journal of Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation (IJNSNS) of which he is Editor-in-Chief.

He is at the center of a scandal for appropriating without attribution the work of Dr. Shijun Liao (homotopy analysis method or HAM), renaming it (homotopy perturbation method or HPM), and calling it his own. His work is not only unoriginal, it is of poor quality. Besides the previous link, see Francisco M. Fernández on Ji-Huan He in this regard. Also see Three cheers for Francisco M. Fernández! and Another Fernández review of Ji-Huan He's papers.

Most shocking is J-H He's close association with the infamous and belligerently litigious crackpot Mohamed El Naschie. J-H He calls El Naschie "one of this century's greatest scientists since Newton and Einstein" and says "El Naschie's theory will certainly lead to a Nobel Prize". But El Naschie is widely known to be a huckster.

Appropriately, J-H He has been fired from editorial positions at Chaos, Solitons and Fractals (CSF), the Arab Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences (AJMMS), Computers and Mathematics with Applications (CMA), International Journal of Information Sciences and Computer Engineering (IJISCE), Research Journal of Mathematics and Statistics (RJMS), and Mathematical Problems in Engineering (MPE). Note that MPE, like IJDE, is a Hindawi journal.

Ji-Huan He is a crackpot with a penchant for inserting himself onto editorial boards and similar prestigious-sounding groups to pad his CV.

For the reputations of IJDE and Hindawi, and in consideration of the feelings of the other members of the Editorial Board who will surely not want to be associated with him, it would be prudent to remove Ji-Huan He.

Don't take my word for all this. Conduct your own investigation. Consult with your associates at your sister journal MPE who fired Prof. He.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Best regards,

Jason of El Naschie Watch

Update: FIRED! That was fast.

The Master list of Ji-Huan He's editorial positions has been updated.

  1. Hi Jason
They removed Ji-Huan from the editorial board of
International Journal of Differential Equations (IJDE). You can check

  3. Hi Jason,
Ji Huan He is still in the board of Computers and Mathematics with Applications. You can check

  4. Thank you for pointing that out. Probably the CMA Web site just needs to be updated to show He's removal, because Prof. Rodin's instruction to for J-H He to be removed was clear. The same is true for #22 AJMMS. I should follow up in each case.

  5. El Naschie's Rosa Al-Youssef column for Sunday, June 27 is up. Need the political economy. Arabic or English.

El Naschie compares economics with theoretical physics, and drops several names:

Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali, Minister of Finance
    Alex Shalaby
    President Hosni Mubarak (of course)
President of Central Bank of Egypt, Dr. Farouk node [sic?]

  6. El Naschie's Rosa column for Monday, June 28. Coincidence worse than a thousand Deadline. Arabic or English.

El Naschie tells about the assassination of Duke Ferdinand, which started World War I. He relates the incident to René Thom's catastrophe theory. The last two paragraphs are an unseemly and embarrassing suck-up to President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt.

  7. El Naschie's Rosa Al-Youssef column is up for Tuesday, June 29. And learn history. Arabic or English.

Continuing in the same vein as yesterday's column. He talks about European history of the early 20th century. He tells how, as an engineer-turned-physicist, he looks to the laboratory for confirmation of his theories. This is a lead-in to praise President Hosni Mubarak's scientific approach to the health of the Egyptian economy. Egypt is building a modern state scientifically, he says. Israel, however, ignores history and has lost its way.
