He was at one time listed as a member of Alexandria University's Department of Physics (solid state). His name appeared on a list at this URL http://www.sci.alex.edu.eg/departments/Default.aspx?Dept=7 which is now a dead link.
We also know from Tarek Ibrahim that he supervised at least one PhD thesis there, probably that of Ayman Elokaby,
with the help of Walter Greiner.
There is also a December 3rd story saying a council headed by AU President Hind Hanafi made El Naschie a part-time professor at Alexandria as a distinguished scientist. I find that hard to believe, and Zahy notes that it may be a false report leaked by El Naschie. The News section of AU's website does not contain a confirmation of the story, that I can find.
Richard Holmes of University Ranking Watch tells us that for El Naschie's work to have been credited to AU in the THE ranking, it was not necessary for AU to claim his affiliation. He published papers in his vanity journal Chaos, Solitons and Fractals (CSF) with the AU affiliation claim and Thomson Reuters assumes such claims are truthful.
No academic department at Alexandria U lists him as a faculty member. He is not in physics, math, or engineering.
On the other hand, have a look at these absurd pages, Top 1% By Category and From 1 to 5% By Category. They purport to show the absolute cream of the crop of Alexandria University's recent research papers.
Of the fifteen papers in the top 1%, two are El Naschie's:
El Naschie MS. The unreasonable effectiveness of the electron-volt units system in high energy physics and the role played by ᾱo = 137. International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation. 2006;7(2):119-28.
El Naschie MS. On a fuzzy Kähler-like manifold which is consistent with the two slit experiment. International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation. 2005;6(2):95-8.
another is also in Ji-Huan He's disgraced and disgraceful journal IJNSNS:
Doma SB, El-Zebidy AFM, Abdel-Khalik MA. A unitary scheme model to calculation of the nuclei with A=7 using effective two body interactions. International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation. 2004;5(2):99-104.
Of the 19 papers in the 1% to 5% range, nine are El Naschie's self-published numerological twaddle:
MATHEMATICS, INTERDISCIPLINARY APPLICATIONS
El Naschie MS. Holographic correspondence and quantum gravity in E-infinity spacetime. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2006;29(4):871-5.
El Naschie MS. An elementary model based method for determining the number of possible higg bosons in the standard model. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;26(3):701-6.
El Naschie MS. Spinorial content of the standard model, a different look at super-symmetry and fuzzy E-infinity hyper Kähler. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;26(2):303-11.
El Naschie MS. Proving superstring theory using loop quantum mechanics. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;26(1):43-5.
El Naschie MS. From the two-slit experiments to the expected number of higgs particles in the standard model. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;26(1):67-70.
El Naschie MS. The two-slit experiment as the foundation of E-infinity of high energy physics. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;25(3):509-14.
El Naschie MS. 't hooft ultimate building blocks and space-time as an infinite dimensional set of transfinite discrete points. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;25(3):521-4.
El Naschie MS. A few hints and some theorems about witten's M theory and T-duality. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;25(3):545-8.
El Naschie MS. On penrose view of transfinite sets and computability and the fractal character of E-infinity spacetime. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2005;25(3):531-3.
and two others are also in the absurd nonsense journal CSF:
Moustafa OL. On the cauchy problem for some fractional order partial differential equations. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2003;18(1):135-40.
El-Borai MM. Some probability densities and fundamental solutions of fractional evolution equations. Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. 2002;14(3):433-40.
AU gives no explanation as to how these "top" papers were chosen, but the fact that CSF and IJNSNS figure prominently suggests that their high rating is based on those journals' cooked-up impact factors. IJNSNS and CSF are complete trash, but I believe they are respectively the highest and second-highest Impact Factor math journals in the world. They are in the top handful for sure.
UPDATE: A reader's father is a retired AU professor who confirms El Naschie has an emeritus-style professor appointment in the physics department there.
