Donghua University may have fired Ji-Huan He

Click the pic for full size.

Ji-Huan He's home page, http://works.bepress.com/ji_huan_he/, says that he has No institutional affiliation! I have been unsuccessful in finding a cached version of that page, but I'm pretty sure I would have noticed if it had always said that.

This is either a webmaster's clerical error or the stunning final result of our campaign against him. But which? Can readers find a cached version, or any further evidence?

UPDATE. Shrink used the Wayback Machine.

The 11 March 2009 version of that page looks like this (click for full size):

Sure enough, it doesn't say "No institutional affiliation". On the other hand it also doesn't say "Donghua University". It is possible that a coding change inserted "No institutional affiliation" automatically if Ji-Huan He left a field blank, while previously it simply didn't write anything at all. If He doesn't fix it, we can assume he was fired. He reads this blog.

  1. The waybackmachine's captures from 2008 and 2009:

don't have the "No institutional affiliation" line.

  2. J.-H. He's affiliation is now listed as Soochow University, Suzhou, China
(ref: http://www.nonlinearscience.com/journal_2076-2275.php). Further evidence that Donghua fired him? Or, perhaps, an "upgrade"? It's hard to tell with these universities.

  3. P.S. It wouldn't be impossible for him to get another academic job even if fired, as even the worst scientific ethics transgressors only get a "slap on the wrist" in China (see the end of http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100112/full/463142a.html )

  4. Thank you for your comments.

Here's the link showing Soochow affiliation:

Here's one that says "No institutional affiliation":

I think Donghua U in Shanghai still lists him on their website but I don't have the link handy. I don't know whether he's been fired. Shanghai and Soochow are only about 40 miles apart.

This is the one about lax treatment of academic fraud in China:

  5. Here's the link Jason is talking about. J. H. He is still listed albeit with outdated information.

  6. Thanks, Shrink!

Click Professors, then look for He Jihuan. It says:

Dr. He Jihuan, professor of mechanics, mainly engages in studies of variation theory, and approximation nonlinear analytical methods. Presently, he devotes himself to the study of textile mechanics. He has published his monographs (Fluid Mechanics: Generalized Variational Principles in Fluids), and (Approximate Nonlinear Analytical Method in Science & Technology). Prof. He is the regional editor of Chaos, Solitons and Fractals (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/chaos) and editor-in-chief of International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation (http://www.ijnsns.com/author.html)

    Email: jhhe@dhu.edu.cn

Since the journal editorships are very outdated, his affiliation with Donghua may also be.

  7. Maybe he should take a page out of El Naschie's book and pretend to be a professor at Cambridge, collaborating with Stephen Hawking.
