El Naschie on US aid to Egypt

On February 4 Hillary Clinton told Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr that US aid is threatened by Egypt's treatment of some American NGO personnel. In response, yesterday top Muslim Brotherhood official Essam el-Erian warned that cuts in US aid could threaten Egypt's peace with Israel. It is in this context that a new El Naschie statement in Seventh Day must be understood. Original Arabic or Google's English translation.

He described the aid as compensation to Egypt...
El Naschie: Stop the stupid political demands on American aid
Wednesday, February 15, 2012 - 19:10

Dr. Mohamed El Naschie, nuclear scientist in the field of nanotechnology, and a likely candidate for the presidency, says those who are demanding the cessation of U.S. aid show their political stupidity, [El Naschie] refusing to endorse these views, which call for cutting off aid.

In a statement to "Seventh Day", El Naschie described the American aid as Egypt's rightful compensation, saying: US aid is the compensation for Egyptian losses suffered because of Israeli attacks on us since 1948.

The likely candidate for the presidency, said that [Mrs. Clinton's] hint that the United States might cut off aid is contrary to all international treaties, stressing that the United States of America wants to live in peace, and Israel is the 53rd state [of the USA], so you pay the aid to Egypt.

There must have been some populist call to tell the US to take their aid and shove it. This would be unacceptable to the SCAF, which is a major beneficiary. El Naschie, then, is siding with SCAF and the Muslim Brotherhood in rejecting that call.

I don't know what the number 53 refers to.

It's amazing how much press attention he's getting these days.

By the way, Mrs. Justice Sharp's judgment on El Naschie v Nature was due in January, so surely it will appear any day now.

  1. El Naschie means that Israel is like the 53rd state of the US. That's what the number refers to.

  2. I thought of that but I rejected it because there are only 50 states. Maybe he meant the 51st state? Obama in a moment of fatigue once said there were 57 states.

  3. There are only 50 states ?!! I was pretty much sure that they are 52. Almost everyone I know thinks they are 52. That's a surprise !!

It's funny. I don't know where the misinformation coming from.

  4. LOL. Well, there are Puerto Rico and Guam but they are "unincorporated territories", not states, so maybe that's the source of confusion. No American (except a tired one) would make that mistake. There are fifty stars on the flag for example, one for each state. :)

  5. Wow. I'm a bit embarrassed. But in my defence, I've never actually been there. And I never doubted the 52 figure enough to actually count the stars on the flag :)

  6. It seems this is a common misconception:

There's no indication (apart speculation) how this get started. As far as I'm concerned I know that USA counts 50 states with Hawaii as the 50th. I remember that from elementary school (in the times of socialist Yugoslavia). :)

Wow, that's really funny. "It turns out that a lot of people in Iceland apparently believe that there are 52 states... Perhaps the confusion is that in some national competitions (Miss America springs to mind) there are 52 contestants" Haha..

  8. I am glad that's an international phenomena. I shouldn't be embarrassed then :)

  9. BTW: The new style for CAPTCHA (due to its poor visibilty) is quite annoying.

  10. OK, I have just turned off CAPTCHA. Let's see how that goes.

  11. There is something called TheEgypedia.org. I can't tell exactly what it is. A news site? A wiki? The content strikes me as a bit random, so maybe they are just getting started. For example here's someone giving English lessons for Arabic speakers. Anyway they have an article about El Naschie and another presidential candidate, Aboul Ezz Al. Original Arabic or Google's English translation. It consists largely of the familiar false boilerplate about El Naschie. Being nominated for the Nobel Prize; being a physics professor at Cambridge; winning the Egypt State Appreciation Award, etc. All untrue.
